This class is an introduction to the world of commercial photography. What distinguishes this from other areas of photographic study is that as a commercial photographer one works for a business client in a contractual way. Students learn about digital capture at a professional level, exploring everything from chip technology to workflow choices. Studio lighting and basic set building are covered, along with an introduction to the business side of commercial photography. This class is important not only for aspiring commercial photographers, but design and marketing students who benefit by learning what’s involved in a commercial shoot and how to request, direct and negotiate an assignment. For their final project they have to develop a concept, prop it, shoot and print it.
